Therapy where you never have to hide who you are
LGBTQ+ affirming therapy that welcomes your whole self
LGBTQ+ affirming therapy offers a space where you can bring your whole self without having to justify, translate or carefully manage how you are understood. At Northlight Therapy, I welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning and gender-diverse adults, and those in non monogamous and diverse relationship styles, as well as anyone exploring their sexuality or gender identity. You do not need to arrive with the right language, a clear label or a finished understanding of who you are. Therapy can be a place to explore openly, at your own pace, with curiosity, care and no assumptions about where that exploration should lead.
You may be looking for support with coming out, identity, relationships, family dynamics, starting a family, parenting, gender, sexuality, shame, belonging or the impact of discrimination and minority stress. You may also be coming to therapy for anxiety, grief, trauma, burnout, low self-esteem or something entirely unrelated to your LGBTQ+ identity. Whatever brings you, you should not have to educate your therapist, defend your experiences or repeatedly come out before the real work can begin. My approach is person-centred, relational and trauma-informed, creating space for you to feel genuinely seen and heard.
I offer LGBTQ+ affirming counselling in York and online across the UK. Our work will be shaped around you, respecting the language you use, the identities and relationships that matter to you, and the wider social and cultural experiences that may have affected your wellbeing. I will not make assumptions about your gender, sexuality, body, relationships or family. Instead, we can build a collaborative therapeutic relationship where you can explore what feels important, understand yourself more deeply and move towards a life that feels safer, freer and more authentically yours.
