Neurodivergent, ADHD & Autism Therapy in York | Northlight

Therapy that honours how you think, feel and experience the world.

Therapy that understands your way of being

It can be a very lonely place to feel like you're on the outside looking in. The struggles of feeling socially isolated and disconnected, combined with sensory overload or stimulation seeking, struggling to understand social cues and needing to move, work and live in a different way to the 'norm' can all leave you feeling exhausted, burnt out, lost and overwhelmed.

I want to offer you a space where you do not have to hide, minimise or apologise for the way your mind works. At Northlight Therapy, I provide compassionate counselling for autistic people, ADHDers, AuDHDers and adults who identify or are     diagnosed as neurodivergent, who are exploring whether they may be neurodivergent, or have spent much of their lives feeling different. Together, we can explore your experiences with curiosity and respect, without viewing your neurodivergence as a problem to be fixed.

My approach is person-centred, relational and trauma-informed, recognising that your wellbeing is shaped not only by your nervous system and individual experiences, but also by the environments, expectations and relationships around you, and your past experiences, and early life.

You may come to therapy for support with anxiety, burnout, masking, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, sensory needs, relationships, identity or the impact of receiving a diagnosis later in life or you might just need someone to hold and understand your neurodivergence as you deal with life experiences such as caring responsibilities, grief, parenting , work or other challenges.

Therapy can offer space to understand these experiences, recognise your needs and develop a kinder, more accepting relationship with yourself.

I offer neuro-affirming counselling in York and online across the UK, adapting our work together to suit how you communicate, process information and feel most comfortable. This might include working at a gentler pace, allowing additional processing time, communicating more directly or finding alternatives when traditional ways of doing therapy do not work for you. You will not be expected to perform, make eye contact, sit still or communicate in a particular way. My aim is to create a collaborative and inclusive therapeutic relationship in which you can feel understood, explore what matters to you and move towards a life that feels more authentic and sustainable.
